MMBI Researchers Participated in a Career Guidance Exhibition

On February 7, a career guidance exhibition timed to coincide with the Day of Russian Science was held at the "Laplandia" center. As part of the gathering of young polar explorers, visitors were introduced to the activities of scientific institutes and leading enterprises of the region: MMBI RAS, PINRO, MAGE, and the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port.

The MMBI RAS career guidance station featured the Algology Laboratory with its green technologies and the Ichthyology Laboratory with a story about the fish riches of the Arctic. Our specialists and talented lecturers Svetlana Kolbeeva, Dmitry Pugovkin, Oleg Bondarev, and Pavel Vashchenko taught schoolchildren how to work with scientific microscopes, determine the age of fish by their scales, study the chloroplasts of green algae, and introduced them to the diversity of fish and algae. The station also featured live fucoid algae, which are used to create plantation bio-filters capable of cleaning water areas from particles of oil products. It is also worth noting that adults were no less interested than children in the opportunities provided and actively familiarized themselves with the scientific equipment and samples.

We very much hope that the experience gained at the exhibition will inspire the "young polar explorers" to choose a career as a scientist; we will be happy to welcome them into our ranks one day!
