On January 30, a scientific and educational event titled "Environmental Monitoring" was held at the MMBI RAS for 7th-grade schoolers from Gymnasium No. 9 and 11th-grade schoolers from Gymnasium No. 7 in Murmansk. The students not only learned general information about the Institute's work but also visited the plankton and hydrochemistry laboratory, the algology laboratory, saw the collection of fish and invertebrates, and learned about how bird counts are conducted, the study of plankton and water from samples and from satellite imagery, sampling with a bathometer and dredge, using a drag seine and trawl, luminescent microscopy, and even filming with a drone.
The tour was organized in the format of master classes and mini-lectures. The program was intense and engaging thanks to our experienced lecturers: Svetlana Kolbeeva, Tatyana Ishkulova, Anastasia Vashchenko, Veronika Vodopyanova, Alyona Noskovich, Oleg Bondarev, Anastasia Gurba, Pavel Vashchenko, and Ekaterina Kazakova. We thank the schoolers of both gymnasiums for their interest in new knowledge!
