On January 26, a round table "Environmental Problems of Modern Russia" was held at the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF). The speakers were MMBI RAS Head of the Algology Laboratory, Doctor of Biological Sciences Grigory Voskoboynikov; Algology Laboratory Senior Researcher, Candidate of Biological Sciences Dmitry Pugovkin; and the Head of the Environmental Service of JSC "Murmansk Sea Fish Port" Igor Kotyash.
As part of the discussion on environmental problems in Russia, the round table participants expressed deep concern about the country's state of environment and recognized the need for urgent and effective measures to address these problems. They called on the federal headquarters, created to eliminate the consequences of the fuel oil spill, to enhance coordination of all interested parties and to monitor the implementation of decisions made. It was proposed to include representatives of universities developing advanced spill mitigation methods in the working bodies. To oblige the owners of private beaches and hotels to participate in the cleanup. To provide subsidies or incentives for businesses participating in the emergency response. To accommodate volunteers on business premises.
We hope that our proposals will be heard and implemented. Only through joint efforts can we improve the environmental situation in Russia and preserve nature for future generations.
