On January 29, a seminar titled "Environmental Monitoring Using Digitalization of Plankton Vital Activity Indicators with a Submersible Digital Holographic Camera" was held at MMBI RAS. The speaker on this relevant topic was Viktor Demin, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, First Vice-Rector of TSU, and Head of the Laboratory of Radiophysical and Optical Methods for Environmental Study. Plankton is an ideal object for bioindication of the state of water bodies due to its ubiquitous distribution, close connection with the environment, and rapid response to pollution. Therefore, it is very important to improve and develop new technologies for its study. Such as the DHS probe presented by Viktor Valentinovich, which has already been successfully tested in several marine research projects, including studies at the MMBI RAS biological station in the settlement of Dalnie Zelentsy.
Viktor Valentinovich also spoke about cooperation with the EMERCOM of Russia, about the experience of obtaining data while working on the ice-resistant self-propelled platform "North Pole", about light pollution associated with the use of marine vessels, which complicates the assessment of nocturnal and seasonal plankton activity. He also touched upon the use of neural networks for image processing and analysis of certain data. Furthermore, Viktor Valentinovich shared an idea for a long-term environmental project to build distributed systems for monitoring water areas by placing measuring equipment near hazardous facilities, for which it would be necessary to secure support from giants like Rosatom, Rosneft, Gazprom, etc.
The III International Forum of Associations and Consortiums of the Northern Territories, which will be held at Tomsk State University (TSU) in Tomsk in April 2025, was announced. After the presentation, clarifying questions were asked by interested colleagues, and a discussion began about the effectiveness and complementarity of various types of research equipment. "We are still working, we are learning," Viktor Valentinovich summarized the meeting.
