In accordance with Decree No. 548 of the President of the Russian Federation dated August 6, 2025 "On Presenting State Awards of the Russian Federation" MMBI RAS Plankton Laboratory Principal Researcher Anatoly Alexandrovich Shavykin has been awarded the honorary title "Honored Ecologist of the Russian Federation" for professional achievements and many years of dedicated work.
Doctor of Sciences in Geography and Candidate of Sciences in Technology Anatoly Shavykin is one of Russia's leading scientists in the field of regional oceanology, focusing on ecological-oceanographic safety during emergency oil spills at sea. For almost 50 years, Anatoly Alexandrovich has dedicated himself to studying the problems of ecological safety in Arctic seas, the impact of shelf oil and gas projects on them, developing the necessary instruments, research methods and techniques, organizing and participating in shipborne and helicopter expeditionary research. His research is supported by five inventor's certificates, four patents for inventions, and the publication of more than 200 scientific works in domestic and foreign publications. Over 40 projects on environmental support for oil and gas development on the Arctic shelf have been completed under the direction of A.A. Shavykin.
The conferment of the high title of Honored Ecologist of our country is a recognition of Anatoly Alexandrovich's outstanding contribution to the study and protection of the fragile Arctic nature. Warmest congratulations!
