The XVI International Scientific Conference
"INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES OF SVALBARD AND ADJACENT SHELF 2025",

dedicated to centenary of the Svalbard Treaty,
23–24 October, 2025

Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of RAS invites you to take part in the work of the XVI International Scientific Conference "Integrated Environmental Studies of Svalbard and Adjacent Shelf 2025". It's organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Murmansk region, State Trust "Arktikugol" and Murmansk Regional Department of the Russian Geographical Society. During the conference, it is planned to address the most important aspects of scientific research on the Svalbard archipelago and the adjacent shelf, to discuss plans and scientific programs for further work, issues of international cooperation, etc.

  • Marine and terrestrial ecosystems and their components, ecosystem sustainability
  • Climate change, its dynamics and impacts
  • Biological resources, biodiversity and ecosystem productivity
  • Pollutants in Svalbard ecosystems and adjacent shelf – sources, routes of pollution and impacts
  • Geophysical research
  • Glaciological research, periglacial phenomena and processes
  • Geology, geodynamics and paleogeography
  • Archaeological research
  • Education and science

Presentation Forms:

  • plenary reports – 25 min;
  • sectional reports – 15 min.
  • presentation language: RU and ENG.

Main Dates:

  • acception of applications – until September 1, 2025.;
  • submission of abstracts – till September 10, 2025.;
  • conference program distribution – on October 15, 2025.;
  • participants arrival and registration – October 22, 2025.

Abstracts will be published by the conference beginning.


 

Guidelines for conference abstract submission:

  • Abstracts must not exceed 2 pages in length, without figures or tables, typed in Times New Roman font, size 12 with single spacing.

  • Accepted formats: MS Word 2003 or later (without styles or macros) or RTF.

  • References should be listed alphabetically (without numbering) after the main text.

  • Citations should be put in round brackets (Surname N., 2005).

  1. ABSTRACT TITLE (IN CAPS)
  2. Author's surname and initials (in both Russian and English)
  3. Institutional affiliation (full name)
  4. E-mail

Abstracts that fail to comply with these guidelines, or submitted after the deadline, or fall outside the conference theme scope will not be considered.

 

Registration Fee:

A registration fee is required (1000 RUB for students and PhD candidates, 2500 RUB for other participants). These funds will cover coffee breaks and the conference proceedings publication. Payment details will be provided later.

Accommodation:

Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. Information about Murmansk hotels is available via the provided link. Please check room availability for required dates independently.
