STUDENTS AND ASPIRANTS REPORTED IN MMBI RESULTS OF STUDIES AT THE CONFERENCE «PROBLEMS OF THE ARCTIC REGION»

May 15, 2018, XVII international scientific conference of students and aspirants "Problems of the Arctic region" was held. Murmansk Marine Biological Institute traditionally acted as a partner of Polar Geophysical Institute in organizing and holding a youth forum. After welcoming words of institutes leaders, Deputy Director for Science of MMBI Denis Moiseev delivered an introductory and lecture. The report of MMBI leading oceanographer was devoted to studies of the Arctic seas ecosystems in the context of climate change.

This time, on the basis of MMBI KSC RAS, the section "Arctic Hydrobiology and Ichthyology" was held, the program included 18 reports. Presented works were devoted to peculiarities of biology and population ecology of different parts of the Arctic marine ecosystems studies. Most of the reports were made by students and post-graduates of MMBI basic department at Murmansk State Technical University. Winners of creative competition for the best report at the section were Khacheturova K.S. (I place for the report "Species diversity and distribution of polychaete worms of the Zuidkap trench and adjacent water area"), O.V. Chovgan (II place for the report "Biotic relationships of algae of Fucus and Palmaria palmata under experimental conditions"), Garmash M.V. (III place for the report "Some features of the three-pricked stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus biology, 1758 of the Kola Peninsula"). In the final part of the sectional session, section heads - teachers and scientists of MMBI, MAGU and MSTU arranged a "debriefing", analyzing the quality of reports and significance of results obtained, giving constructive advice on qualification works defense.
